Dr Paul Toner

Job Title:

Lecturer in Clinical/Health Psychology - Queen's University Belfast

Building on his reputation for developing or adapting assessments and interventions in the addiction field, Dr Paul Toner was awarded the 2015 Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA) Griffith Edwards Academic Fellowship to develop alcohol screening and assessment measures for young people. This programme of work utilises a mixed methodological approach and permits the infusion of cutting edge psychometric techniques. It has been designed with further studies in mind, and is intended to secure early impact on policy and practice.

Paul has presented preliminary findings from Stage 1 of this work at two international conferences – the 13th Annual Conference of the International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol and Other Drugs (INEBRIA), Lausanne, Switzerland and the 2016 SSA Annual Symposium, York, UK.

Paul is committed to a career in addiction research and has a particular interest in researching alcohol-related risk and harms at individual, family, community and population levels. He is grateful to the SSA for supporting methodological research to deliver rigorous evidence which will carry important implications for addiction research, policy and practice.
