"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"
(George Santayana, 1905)
In 2012, Griffith Edwards started a series in the Addiction journal entitled '100 Years ago in Addiction Science'. The aim was that each contribution would 'extract and comment briefly on material published in this journal just one hundred years ago', and in doing so 'enhance the field's historical awareness'. Sadly the series ended after just 12 months with Griffith's untimely death, but the idea lives on through the SSA website. Each year we will publish contemporary commentaries on papers published in the British Journal of Addiction 50 years ago. We would love to hear your views on these commentaries and take suggestions for future articles [email: firstname.lastname@example.org]
